Support Group:

Support Group participants acquire the skills of communicating with those whom they are in relationships with. They deal with victims suffering from domestic violence, who have lost control over their lives, participants are provided with coping skills – to empower themselves and to be able to make informed decisions about their lives.

They are taken on a journey of ‘Self – discovery’/ Self – enhancement.

Learning:

Learning means; making changes in our knowing, our thinking, our feeling and our doing. Some of these changes are permanent and others are temporary only. (Adult Educator – Alan Rogers 1996, 9)

  • IDENTIFICATION

Participants learn to identify, and they have the ability to recognize emotions, and being able to know what they are feeling at a specific time.

  • COMMUNICATION

This is the ability to communicate clear and concise and express what you feel in a way that is understandable to the self and to others.

  • CONTROL

Having the ability to control inappropriate ways of expressing ones feelings – and to find appropriate, alternative ways of expressing and dealing with the negative feelings.

Methodology:

Inter –active, Experiential, Participatory and Therapeutic.

Programs are managed by Accredited SETA skilled Facilitators.

Topics include: Self – Enhancement, Effective Listening & Communication, Assertiveness, Fundamental Needs, Rights & Responsibilities, Negative – Self talk, Setting Boundaries, Choices & Consequences, to name  a few.

More specifically, we can say that learning is either:

  • A change in skill
  • A change in knowledge and information
  • A change in behavior
  • A change in understanding
  • A change in attitude
  • Or a combination of the above changes

Knowledge:

  • Is information about people, places, events, ideas stored in peoples’ minds or in libraries

Attitudes:

  • Are peoples’ feelings towards someone or something; they change with new understandings

Behaviors:

  • Are the ways we behave at work, or in everyday situations, Behavior is formed by changes in knowledge and skill. As a trainer, you may change your behavior towards your learners because you learnt something new about them.
